Come to Cape Girardeau’s first Citywide Juneteenth Celebration at Ivers Square, the park in front of the new City Hall.
According to a release from the city, the event will feature children’s activities, door prizes, food, raffles and entertainment including artists and performers from around the country.
Juneteenth marks the day the news finally made it to Texas that the Civil War had ended along with slavery. It has been celebrated in the African American community for over 150 years and became an official national holiday in June 2021.
