Candidate Filing Opens! (ends March 26)

  • Cape Girardeau County Democrats P.O. Box 692 Jackson, MO 63755 USA (map)

Today opens the filing period for Democrats to place their name on the ballot for the August 6, 2024 Primary Elections in Missouri. Candidate filing is required for partisan public offices such as county-wide posts, seats in the General Assembly (MO House and Senate), as well as statewide offices, such as governor.

Candidates for state offices such as General Assembly or Governor must file in Jefferson City with the Secretary of State.

Candidates for local offices from Precinct Committeeperson to County Clerk must file at the office of their county’s election authority.

Note: Democratic Party Committeeperson = one man and one woman can be elected from each of the county’s wards and townships. (See you voter registration card for details regarding your ward/township). All seats are open. If you are the only person to file in your ward or township then your name will not appear on the ballot. If two or more persons file for the same position then all names filed for that seat will be on the August Primary Election ballot.

About two weeks after the August Primary election all newly elected committeepersons will be seated, officer elections will be held for leaders to serve on the county committee for a two-year term.

This election also begins a series of elections for Democratic Party state legislative committees on up to electing a new State Party chairperson and other officers.
