This meeting is free and open to the public. However, voting for officers is restricted to Democratic ward and township committee members elected during the August 6th Primary. Vacant seats can also be filled at this or during any meeting of the Committee.
Missouri State law requires county political committees to meet after the August 6 Primary Election between 8/20 - 8/24 to hold officer elections.
All offices are considered open and available to any qualified individual wanting to run for the office.
Secret paper ballot elections will be held for the following offices: Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, and Secretary. Voting for each office will be completed one-by-one in that order. Missouri Democratic Party rules require gender representation among the offices. For example, if a female is elected chairperson then only men can be considered for vice chair, etc.
Additional elections will be held to fill representative positions for legislative district committees: House 146, 147, & 151, and Senate 27. Over time there will be other meetings of the members of those legislative committees to elect officers, ultimately leading to the election of Missouri Democratic Party officers by the end of the year.
The current chair will oversee the meeting including the election. The new chair will take over at the next scheduled meeting of the committee. Candidates must be nominated (self-nomination is welcome), the nomination must be seconded. Candidates will be given a few minutes to speak and discussion among the committee members regarding the candidates is welcome prior to voting.
Members of the general public may participate in the discussion.
